The Second Great Experiment of 2012

Reblogged from mattandmaturing:

I received a care package from the Great White North, and among the goodies packed within was a new book for my collection.  An interesting looking book that made someone think of me and my interests.  If you know me closely or casually, then you probably have picked up on how much I love books and getting lost inside the worlds they contain.

My friend Matt has started something pretty cool here. I'm not sure if it's been done elsewhere but I find it quite revolutionary. It's a unique take on book reading!

Justice for Cisco!

I am heartbroken after I read this story coming out of Austin, Texas. This is truly sad depressing story: a man lost his best friend. On Saturday April 14th Michael Paxton and his beloved Australian Cattle Dog companion Cisco were playing in the backyard. Paxton ran to fetch something from his truck. At this point a member of the Austin Police Department pulled up and held him at gunpoint. They received a 911 call for a domestic disturbance call for the wrong address.

Cisco heard the commotion from the backyard and ran to see if his owner was alright. Paxton told the officer not to shoot the dog and he was friendly. The officer refused Paxton’s request. He shot to kill the dog instantly without remorse and without hesitation. I’m deeply appalled at this story. I have huge respect for law enforcement officials this however crosses the line. Of course they are humans so there is room for error.

However, they aren’t claiming it was human error and that the officer responsible for Cisco’s death acted within his rights as a police officer. 100% bona fide bullshit. The APD released a statement that the dog attacked the officer which the owner said is an outright lie nor did the officer show ANY sympathy nor apologized at the scene as they’ve claimed.

I really hope justice is served for Cisco and his owner. My heartfelt condolences go out to Mr. Paxton and the people blessed to have Cisco in their lives.

Wanna be a Canucks fan?

In response to: So you want to be a Canucks fan? on Brown to Bure.

Dave – someone I’ve met on Twitter has written an excellent guide on joining the Vancouver Canucks bandwagon. We’re pretty much open to everyone joining our team’s cause. However, I think he’s missed one key point.

DO NOT broadcast the team that you cheer for on the regular season, especially if they’re the Toronto Maple Leafs. Although the same can be said for the following teams as well: the Minnesota Wild, the Calgary Flames and the Edmonton Oilers because we all know that the longtime rivalry between our teams isn’t going to be suspended for the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Yes, we’re thrilled that you are cheering for our team on in the playoffs. We just like to poke  check. It’s fucking fun.

You should also bookmark Brown to Bure, if your a new or old fan. Dave does blog about insightful things about our team. And who knows, you may actually learn something. I certainly have.

Stanley Is Coming

The NHL 2011 – 2012 NHL Season has come to an end (at least abruptly for the Maple Leafs and their fans – better luck next year?). The Canucks have won their second consecutive President’s Trophy and I was there when they clinched the 2-point 3-0 win over the Oilers. I was glad to be there in person as a fan and a lover of the sport and the team.

I’m pleased that the Canucks’ season continues on into the playoffs and I’m confident that our team will advance to the Final series. To twist the words of the Stark clan, “Stanley Is Coming”. This cup will grace our city once again and be awarded to the greatest team in the league!

Here are my predictions for Round 1 of the 2012 NHL Playoffs:

Eastern Conference

  • In favour of the New York Rangers over the Ottawa Senators in five.
  • In favour of the Washington Capitals over the Boston Bruins in seven.
  • In favour of the New Jersey Devils over the Florida Panthers in seven.
  • In favour of the Philadelphia Flyers over the Pittsburgh Penguins in seven.

Western Conference

  • In favour of the Vancouver Canucks over the Los Angeles Kings in six.
  • In favour of the St. Louis Blues over the San Jose Sharks in seven.
  • In favour of the Chicago Blackhawks over the Phoenix Coyotes in six.
  • In favour of the Detroit Red Wings over the Nashville Predators in seven.

And there we have it Vancouver. Are you ready to commit regicide?! DOWN WITH THE KING!

2012 The Anth Zone Playoff Pool

I have decided to start off my own playoff pool. I plan on blogging results on a daily/weekly basis with point leaders and so forth. Winner will get bragging rights and a guest writer spot on my blog so you can bloat all about how fucking awesome you are. If I’m able too, I’ll take the winner out for a burger or something but no promises there.

Mass Effect 3: The Ending

I’m not quite sure what I want to blog about tonight but I haven’t blogged since March 8th. So I decided on another Mass Effect 3-related post.

I’m pleased to announce that I beat Mass Effect 3 on the Normal Difficulty within sixty-four hours. I like to explore the world/universe as much as I can take in. I like to absorb all the information available.

Out of the series, 3 has to have one of my favourite Citadels. I would rate it as a close second after the one in Mass Effect that started it all. I absolutely hated the layout in the second title. It just didn’t do it for me.

Please note the following contains spoilers

I was actually expecting the way 3 ended. I’m annoyed by the massive outcry of fans that are dissatisfied with their final result. BioWare did come out with the announcement of 2 that the third will be the final Commander Shepherd story. So the hero, the champion dies at the end. In what tragedy does our champion survive?

I admire the hard work level designers and story developers have placed into this franchise. They have developed an open universe for gamers like you and I to explore. However, the community seems to be unthankful for these people’s commitment into bringing excellent video games for us to play. For example, Metacritic users posted negative reviews and shared them on Reddit. They put thousands of hours into this game and are completely dedicated. Hell, I want to give game developers a hug but I don’t want to come across as creepy. Y’know what I mean!

I admire that BioWare has stated that they’ll release Downloadable Content (DLC) in the future that’ll shed some light and, or change the ending. They care about feedback from fans. However, I don’t think fans are always right. Video game design is an art form. We must respect these artists for their work.

Just my two cents.

What are your thoughts? If you have any questions for me regarding my thoughts regarding other aspects of the game, hit me! (But not really, I’ll cry :( )
